Europa Point Pine
Pinus halepensis
Aleppo Pine Europa Point
A wind-sculpted Aleppo pine at the southern tip of Gibraltar, bent away from the sea by the prevailing wind.
Story & Significance
Aleppo pines are pioneers of the Mediterranean, thriving on thin limestone soils where little else will grow. This one stands where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, in sight of the Rif mountains of Morocco. Its resinous cones can stay closed for years, opening after fire to reseed the slope — a quiet lesson in resilience.
